Area teams participate in Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October signals the start of Breast Cancer Awareness month, and many high school teams along the Treasure Coast will be showing their support over the next four weeks.

Several area football teams will be wearing pink socks, using pink tape and painting the pink ribbon on various parts of the football fields for the entire month.

Pink buttons, beads, bracelets and baked goods also will be sold at the concessions stands.

BREAST CANCER AWARENESS EVENTS

Fort Pierce Westwood: Teams will wear pink socks.

John Carroll Catholic: The football team will wear pink shirts on game day and the school is working on making the Oct. 16 game against Melbourne Central Catholic a out game. The cheerleaders will be selling pink bracelets with the proceeds going to the breast cancer awareness cause. The swim team will wear pink swim caps to all of their meets. The volleyball team will wear pink shirts at matches and will be participating in a Dig Pink tournament Oct. 9 in Orlando.

Okeechobee: The football team will wear pink socks and wristbands and parts of the field will be marked with pink paint.

Sebastian River: Parts of the football field will feature the pink breast cancer awareness ribbon.

South Fork: The football team will wear pink socks, pink sleeves and use pink tape. The cross country team is hosting its annual Fleet Feet Invitational on Saturday. All course markings will be pink and feature the breast cancer awareness ribbon. The girls cross country team will wear pink shorts for the entire month.

St. Lucie West Centennial: The girls basketball team will be volunteering at the Making Strides Walk on Oct. 31. The boys golf team will wear pink shirts.

Treasure Coast: The football team will wear pink socks and also plans to honor Ashton Richards, a former player who passed away from cancer. The volleyball team will wear pink during the month and will play an in school game Oct. 9, with part of the game proceeds going to charity.

Vero Beach: The football team will have a out for Friday night game against Centennial, supporting both the American Heart Association and breast cancer awareness. Coaches will wear pink hats and players will wear pink socks.
