Given the amount of work it takes to ban literally hundreds of thousands of bots, I think it pretty naive to think they just “don care” about the botting issue.
If they can force everyone onto the official client, then there are both lots of ways you can relatively simply keep changing how the client works to delay botters, and more subtle ways you can discretely change under the hood stuff so bot clients would suddenly stand out til they implement the same changes, which allows for massive bot nukes.
