Belly dance WORKSHOPS 10-11.30am

1) ALL THINGS ATS® EGYPTIAN with Claire Buxton-Challand General level

An introduction to the beautiful art of ATS® giving you a taste of one of the basic steps, along with variations. It will also give existing ATS® dancers a change to look at the entire ‘Egyptian Step’ family. Please wear a tribal or circle skirt and/or pantaloons but do not worry if you don’t have these. Zils players may bring sets to play. Handouts available.

2) BOLLY- BELLY DANCE with Katie Holland General level

Learn a ‘masti, masala’ choreography to the latest Bollywood tunes. Combining Arabic, Bollywood and Classical Indian dance grooves. Funky, flavoursome, not to be missed!

3) DANCING TO TURKISH KARSILAMA 9/8 RHYTHMS with Lynne Chapman (Fulya) General Level

The 9/8 time signature seems very alien to our western ears; the beat can seem too long or too short… This workshop is designed to get you up and dancing to this joyful rhythm in no time at all. You don’t need to know anything about music to do it!

4) EGYPTIAN DANCE BOOTCAMP with Yvette Cowles General Level

Get drilling! An in-depth look at Egyptian belly dance technique with a senior JWAAD tutor, building on the basics to create multi-layered movements.

6) FUN SAIDI STICK DANCE with Sarah Richardson-Goodlad General Level

We will be learning a fun and lively Saidi routine with stick, open level as will shows level variations for a mixed ability class.
there will also be some handouts on Saidi history rhythms etc plus the choreography notes.

Your Belly dancing Teachers:

Fulya is a full time Bellydance & Burlesque teacher, performer, costumier and event organiser. She is well known as a fusion bellydance performer who seeks to push boundaries and re-define her art. Runs the Kookie Kaftan Bazaar with sister Julie and organizes Bellydance and Burlesque theatre show based in Northampton.

Sayuri (Sarah Richardson-Goodlad)- Sayuri has been dancing for 7 years and is currently working towards her JWAAD teachers diploma in Belly Dance. She is passionate about the artform and wants to share with as many as she can. Yvette Cowles A soloist with JOHARA Dance, Yvette’s theatrical style draws on Bollywood, Burlesque, Theatre – and even Clowning!  She has taught and performed Egyptian bellydance throughout the UK and in France for over 15 years, and is a senior tutor on the JWAAD Belly Dance Foundation and Diploma Courses. Claire Buxton-Challand- Claire is a fully qualified & certified American Tribal Style® FatChanceBellyDance® Teacher. Ashima tribal; her company, is an accredited Sister Studio. She teaches in Birmingham and is rapidly gaining a reputation for her skilled dancing and teaching in both tribal and Oriental style.

Katie Holland-Internationally renowned belly dancer who has studied many forms of dance  including Arabic dance, Bollywood, Samba, African, Sacred Nepalese, Yoga and currently Gurdjieff Sacred dances and Bharatnatyam. Katie has recently returned to the UK after six years in India. She has been interviewed and filmed on many national and international Asian TV channels, performed with and for Bollywood dancers, actors and musicians, fashion shows, film premiers, and corporates, and also works closely with Hossam and Serena Ramzy, Simon Webster and Phil Thornton. Katie also organizes dance and holistic retreats in Goa, Morocco and the UK. THE SOUK- Amazing souk including the bestMidlandstraders. Come and browse to your hearts content, and grab some sparkly bargains. Also including stalls selling gifts and pre-loved goods. Please remember many traders cannot take credit cards.

COSTUME AUCTION- This souk we see the return of the closed auction- like Ebay but you can check out the bargains beforehand. Place a secret bid in the morning on the item you want and wait until 2.30pm to see if you have won it! Details from the door or Arielle’s Bazaar on the day.

PAMPER AREA- Even bigger and better than last year! Come and chill out after a busy time shopping and indulge yourself with a soothing foot or back massage, have your toenails painted or find out what your future holds!

BELLY DANCING TEA DANCE DEMO- Open to student dancers and teachers alike. Come and show off your latest dance in this informal demo in the main hall. Send your details with the booking form or contact Val by email. Please keep your dances to 5 mins or less.

CAFÉ- Come and visit our very own café and try the girls’ legendary delicious cakes, light lunches and snacks- you won’t be disappointed- yum yum!
