Belly Dance

Belly Dance

Of all the styles of dance, Belly Dance is that style which is most intensively danced and felt from inside the body including from the belly

Belly dancing can be strongly attached to emotions and feelings as you allow yourself to move to the beautiful exotic music.

You can let yourself relax into the music and be carried by the rhythm and you will feel both freedom and security at the same time.

The higher a dancer’s agility, sensibility and dance technique; the more exhilarated by her own aliveness and physical sensations, she will move – lighter and freer to the music.

This harmony, including her facial expression, which flows freely form her own emotions, can be perceived and experience by the audience, enabling Belly dancing to become delightful for both the performer and audience.

The word ‘Belly Dance’ is the most suitable word for this beautiful dance even though it sometimes, through false ideas, is given a lewd connotation with the mis-perception that it was performed for men’s pleasure.

It is up to the true bellydancer to use aesthetics and sensitivity  to make this dance what it should be: an erotic, positive, warming artistic and beautiful expression of life.

If the origins of belly dancing  are shrouded in mystery, its practise is also surrounded by mysticism.Much has been made of the healing and empowering status of belly dancing for women.

A theme that is explored by the author Rosina Fawzia AlRawi in her part historical, part autobiographical book Grandmother’s Secrets.
